Some venues speak for themselves. Villa Carminati Resta, overlooking Lake Como, is one of them. The Venetian terrazzo floors, the tall windows opening onto the illuminated garden at night, the elegant proportions of the interior rooms everything speaks of centuries of history and beauty.
But what I witnessed that evening went far beyond the venue itself. It was the décor.
White, candles and gypsophila: a deliberate style choice
The couple had chosen a rigorous colour palette — pure white throughout, with green accents and touches of red on the wedding cake. No colour out of place, nothing left to chance. Gypsophila everywhere, white roses, orchids, candles arranged in a circle on the floor around the cake table like an ancient ritual.
The result was dreamlike or like a film set. The candlelight bounced off the terrazzo floors, cast warm reflections on the pale walls, drew soft shadows across the flowers. A light impossible to replicate artificially, only possible with that many real candles, in that space, on that night.
The imperial table: when length becomes poetry
The second room told a different but equally powerful story. A very long imperial table, with a floral composition running its entire length white roses, tall cylindrical candles, tealights scattered among crystal glasses.
Photographing an imperial table is one of my favourite things. Depth of field becomes a narrative tool glasses sharp in the foreground, flowers in focus, guests' silhouettes softly blurred in the background, candlelight multiplying into points of light. A single photograph tells an entire evening.
Why Villa Carminati Resta on Lake Como
Lake Como has long been one of the most beloved destinations for luxury weddings not just in Italy, but worldwide. Couples from across Europe and the United States choose these waters, these villas, this particular light that reflects off the lake and softens everything it touches.
Villa Carminati Resta is one of those venues that combines the history of an ancient residence with the modernity of impeccable service. The interior spaces open onto a garden that transforms into something magical at night light filtering through the windows, illuminated greenery, the silence of the lake just steps away.
The dialogue between décor and photography
As a photographer, what I see in a setup like this is opportunity. Every candle is a light source. Every floral arrangement is a natural frame. Every reflection on the floor is an image waiting to be captured.
When the décor is curated with this level of precision, my work becomes almost effortless I don’t need to search for the light, it’s already there. I don’t need to find the composition, the environment suggests it to me. I simply need to be present, eyes open, and wait for the right moment.
I photograph weddings on Lake Como and throughout the area
I cover weddings at Villa Carminati Resta and all venues on Lake Como — from Cernobbio to Varenna, from Bellagio to Tremezzo. I know the light of the lake, the logistics of moving between locations, the moments of the day when that light becomes unrepeatable.
If you are planning a wedding on Lake Como, get in touch I would love to tell you how I work.
